Several houses in the area (Zumi-Zumi Street) including those in the adjoining street were shaken to their foundation with louvres shattered; ceilinga and roofs destroyed over an explosion in Benin City.

One Mr. Chinedu said he moved into the flat about 7 months ago and that there were hips of abandoned items mostly cartons of paper, which he gathered together and burnt.

He said he just stepped out of the gate to buy ice cream after lighting the fire when he heard a loud explosion.

Other residents who narrated their experiences said the surrounding houses were shattered, pots on fire were thrown down and individuals on bed thrown on the floor.

It was gathered that some tenants who were in the apartment few years ago were bundled away by security forces over alleged questionable activities while others run away abandoning hips of items which the new tenants attempted to burn.

Meanwhile, officials from the Nigeria Red Cross Society were on ground attending to casualties with the Anti-bomb Squad of the Nigeria Police ascertaining the likely cause of their explosion.
