Health Watch: FAST to keep diabetes away

Within the well-fed state, glucose is absorbed and transported to the liver. Excess energy is converted to fat in the liver and transported, along with dietary fat, to the adipose tissues.
The pancreas releases high levels of insulin in response to these events. Insulin signals the liver to convert glucose to glycogen. The adipose tissues synthesize and deposit fats.
NB: Don't allow your glycogen store to be overloaded; engage in exercises/fasting (e.g. brain works, since your brain always reach out for glucose first as a source of energy). This avid quest for glucose will ultimately stimulate the breakdown of glycogen to glucose.
A deficiency of insulin is a cause of diabetes, characterized by excess levels of blood glucose. In this disease, glucose is not converted into glycogen or fat, so it remains in the circulation.
As the individual enters the fasting state, glycogen stored in the body is broken down into glucose to supply energy for the tissues.
Simultaneously, gluconeogenesis begins as amino acids, lactate, and pyruvate from metabolism are cycled into the formation of glucose. As fats are broken down, the fatty acids supply energy to the peripheral tissues, while the glycerol from breaking down the triacylglycerols is transported to the liver and converted to glucose. Gluconeogenesis becomes more important than glycogen breakdown after about 16 hours of fasting.
Gluconeogenesis is maximal after about two days without food, at which time ketone bodies are made from fat and transported to the brain. This transition describes the beginning of starvation, which can last for six to ten weeks before death occurs. During starvation, the body breaks down amino acids for glucose; however, ketone bodies and fat supply most energy requirements. At this time, the body is in negative nitrogen balance, because the amount of nitrogen excreted due to protein breakdown exceeds the nitrogen eaten in food.
The small amount of glucose made is supplied to brain, kidney, and red blood cells. The latter two tissues have no alternative energy sources; the brain uses both ketone bodies and glucose. When fat is gone, the only sources of energy available are amino acids from muscle. The carbon skeletons are metabolized, and the nitrogen is excreted. This situation cannot continue for very long. Eventually, the kidneys fail, or the heart muscle is broken down, and the individual dies.

Kim Jong-un executes two high-ranking officials

Kim Jong-un uses an anti-aircraft gun to execute one high-ranking official for sleeping in a meeting and another for coming up with his own idea.

Kim Jong-un ordered the execution of two high-ranking officials by anti-aircraft gun over fears that the dictator is preparing another purge against his people.
Ri Yong Jin, a senior official at the education ministry, was sentenced to death after he fell asleep in a meeting being addressed by Kim.
After accidentally dozing off, Ri was taken into custody and interrogated where security agents found evidence of his disloyalty and disrespect towards Kim.
According to South Korean newspaper Joongang Ilbo, Hwang Min, a former agriculture minister was also sentenced to death.
Hwang's crime, according to the South Korean media, was to have developed a number of ideas to improve agricultural production.
These ideas were seen by the regime as an attempt to undermine Kim.
Both men were executed by an anti-aircraft gun at a military academy in Pyongyang.
The North Korean regime is especially paranoid in recent weeks after a senior official at the London embassy defected to South Korea along with his wife and children.
North Korea rarely announces purges or executions, although state media confirmed execution of Kim's uncle and the man widely considered the second most powerful man in the country, Jang Song Thaek, in 2012 for factionalism and crimes damaging to the economy.
A former defence minister, Hyun Yong Chol, is also believed to have been executed last year for treason, according to the South's spy agency.

Mark Zuckerberg Storms Nigeria To Witness Africa’s Tech Revolution

Facebook Chief, Mark Zuckerberg, is in Nigeria on his first trip to sub-Saharan Africa, using his time in the country to visit the Yaba Technology hub in Lagos, meet with developers and partners and explore Nollywood.
Zuckerberg says he will also listen, learn and take ideas back to California on how Facebook can better support tech development and entrepreneurship across Africa.
One of his first stops on the trip was to visit a ‘Summer of Code Camp’ at the Co-Creation Hub (CcHub) in Yaba, known as the Silicon Valley of Nigeria.
At CcHub, Zuckerberg met with developers like Temi Giwa, who runs a platform called Life Bank that makes blood available when and where it is needed in Nigeria. Life Bank saves lives by mobilising blood donations, taking inventory of all blood available in Nigeria, and delivering blood in the right condition to where it is needed.
After visiting CcHub, Mark Zuckerberg said: “This is my first trip to sub-Saharan Africa. I’ll be meeting with developers and entrepreneurs, and learning about the start-up ecosystem in Nigeria. The energy here is amazing and I’m excited to learn as much as I can.
“The first place I got to visit was the Co-creation Hub Nigeria (CcHUB) in Yaba. I got to talk to kids at a summer coding camp and entrepreneurs who come to CcHub to build and launch their apps.  I’m looking forward to meeting more people in Nigeria”.
Mark then proceeded to Andela, an engineering organisation that is building the next generation of technical leaders in Africa.
Andela is a business that recruits the most talented technologists in Africa and shapes them into world-class developers through a four-year technical leadership program.
In the two years since it was founded, Andela has accepted just over 200 engineers from a pool of more than 40,000 applicants.
Andela developers spend six months mastering a technical stack and contributing to open source projects before being placed with global technology companies as full-time, distributed teammates, working out of Andela headquarters in Lagos and Nairobi.
Earlier this year, the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative invested in Andela after being impressed by the company’s innovative model of learning and its drive to connect the global technology ecosystem with the most talented developers in Africa.
The Director of Andela Lagos, Seni Sulyman, said: “We are excited and honoured to welcome Mark Zuckerberg to Lagos. His visit reinforces not only his support of Andela’s mission, but his belief that indeed the next generation of great technology leaders will come out of Lagos, Nigeria and cities across Africa.
“Andela has created a platform for passionate, driven software developers and engineers to break into the global tech ecosystem, but the barriers to entry are still very high. Mark’s visit demonstrates to all Nigerian developers and entrepreneurs that they’ve caught the attention of the tech world, and they are capable of succeeding on a truly global level”.

FG Launches Google Digital Training for Nigerian Youths

The Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo has expressed optimism that Nigeria can overtake India in the market for technology and innovation talent.
The Nigerian Vice President made the statement on Tuesday during a flag-off ceremony of Google Digital Training for Youth Empowerment in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory.
He said the administration would continue to explore creative ways at empowering Nigerian youths.
“This would mean that we would be building more local capacity to build, assemble hardware and to write innovative programmes.
“We will also be focusing on technology for media and entertainment,” he said.
While the empowerment initiative launched is targeting 400,000 Nigerian youths at a start, Professor Osinbajo said the government was determined to give every opportunity to younger generation to ensure they excel with the use of modern technology.
He hinted that a special initiative on innovative technology and start-ups, as well as presentation of prospective participants had already been done in Lagos, Abuja and Port Harcourt.
To achieve this, the Vice President stated that there were many opportunities, as practically anything could be learned online today.
He added that there were also important opportunities for those in the performing and film arts, which go beyond actual performing to effective management of their talents, programmes and projects.
On her part, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Sustainable Development Goals, Princess Adejoke Orelope-Adefilure, said that the programme was part of the government’s Sustainable Development Goals’ commitment.
She explained that it would be replicated in every state to lift Nigerian youths from poverty.
Other top government officials at the event include the Minister of Communication, Adebayo Shittu, Minister of Sports, Solomon Dalung and Minister of Labour,  Chris Ngige. They harped on the importance of the training to youth development.
They promised to key into the move for positive development of the youths.
The theme of the event was “Diversifying the Nigerian Economy: Enabling Youth through Digital Skills Training”.

Larry the Cable Guy: 'Hillary Will Be the End of the Country'

Larry the Cable Guy dropped by "Fox and Friends" today to share some laughs and give his thoughts on the 2016 race.
The superstar "Blue Collar" comedian said that this election year is "crazy," and he's torn between Donald Trump and libertarian candidate Gary Johnson, since both have policies he agrees with.
"I know who I'm not voting for. I'll give you the initials... Hillary Clinton," Larry said. "Hillary will be the end of the country. That's all I got to say."
He added that he's noticed how divided the country is and how uncivil many people are this particular election cycle.
He explained that if someone says they agree with some of the things Trump says, they're immediately criticized and deemed a "racist."
