A mother is to stand trial for murder after the corpses of two
of her new-born babies were found in the kitchen freezer.
Both were found wrapped in plastic
by their shocked father when he was clearing away ice. One of the babies had
been there for at least 18 months.
Police said both babies were born
alive but one, a boy, had drowned and the other by asphyxiation.
The woman from Seville, Spain,
admits giving birth to the first baby in the bath tub but says both were
still-born and that she hid the pregnancies from her husband because he would
have been furious at having more children.
After the bodies were discovered,
police search gardens, olive groves and wells in case there were more bodies.
Arrested back in November, 2012 the
woman has reportedly only been identified as Sara L.H. and is in her mid 30s.
The mother said she put the bodies
in the freezer because 'she could not bear to part with them' and thought it
wrong to throw them in the bin. When the mother was arrested, no-one realised
she was eight months pregnant again. She gave birth to a girl who now lives
with the father. She also has two other teenage children.
Her trial begins in Spain this week with the
prosecution asking for 40 years in prison for premeditated murder but the
defence says the babies died naturally.
