GLO/CAF Awards – Pierre-Emerick beats Yaya Toure

The GLO/CAF came to a great end tonight amazing surprises. Individuals wore different measures of smile as they walk up the podium to be cheered up as they reach out to their awards. The event had in attendance the Nigeria Minister of State for Petroleum, Dr. Ibe Kachikwu, Jay Jay Okocha and a host of other personalities.

One could easily ascertain that among the nominees for the African Player of the Year, Yaya Toure will stand out as the top. The other side of the coin played out as Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang of Gabon clenched the award above Yaya Toure of Cote d’ivore to be the African Player of the Year Award.

In a vote of coaches and technical directors of CAF member nations, Aubameyang earned 143 points, with Manchester City midfielder Toure, the runner-up with 136 points.

Ghana and Swansea midfielder Andre Ayew was third with 112 points.

Aubameyang is the Bundesliga's leading scorer so far this season, with 18 goals in 17 league games.

Toure, who had won the award in each of the previous four years, led his country to the Africa Cup of Nations title in February.

He was recently voted BBC African Footballer of the Year 2015.

The event also featured glo ambassadors who took part in the curtain calls.

Bayelsa State Deputy Gov’s Brother Attacked by Thugs

Left with less than 48 hours for the conduct of supplementary election in Southern Ijaw LGA, Mr. Beinmopre Jonah, brother of Bayelsa State Deputy Governor, on Thursday (today) escaped assassination by the whiskers, as thugs suspected to be working for the All Progressives Congress, (APC) invaded his residence in Ekeki, Yenagoa LGA, leaving him unconscious. The thugs stormed his abode, brandishing dangerous weapons, including machetes and cudgels.

The entire area was thrown into panic, as the suspected thugs threatened to shoot, maim and kill anybody that may put up resistance or call security operatives.
An inside source revealed that, the invaders overpowered his guard, broke the security lock of the gate and headed straight to the living room, where he was with members of his family and attacked him.

The thugs, according to sources, overpowered the defenceless Jonah and inflicted machete cuts all over his body before they finally left. The operation, which lasted for close to two hours left the entire neighbourhood in a state of pandemonium, as they were made to stay indoors.

The attack is coming on the heels of Saturday’s supplementary polls in Southern Ijaw LGA and 101 units across 6 local governments in the state, which is expected to be the deciding factor.

Need for Fiscal Discipline-IMF Boss

“We discussed the challenges ahead, stemming from the oil price reduction, the necessity to apply fiscal discipline and the need to respond to the population needs”, Christine Lagarde said while briefing journalists at the State House, Abuja.

She noted that this could be done by “addressing the medium term necessity of improving competitiveness of Nigeria and yet focusing on the short term fiscal situation, which requires that revenue sources be identified in order to compensate the shortfall resulting by the oil price decline”.

She further noted that “oil is not the major contributor to Nigeria’s GDP; its only about 14 per cent” restating the fact that “it is a big source of revenue for the government”.

The meeting, according to Lagarde, also discussed issues including how more efficiency, more transparency, better accountability and enlarging the base of revenue can be used for “a sound budget going forward”.

She, however, refused to comment on the 2016 Appropriation Bill submitted to the National Assembly by President Muhammadu Buhari because there are procedures at the IMF that must be followed.

“A team of economists is going to come here next week to review and audit (the Bill) and have a good discussion with the government authorities to really assess whether the financing is in place, whether the debt is sustainable, whether the borrowing costs are sensible and what strategy must be put in place in order to address challenges going forward”, she said.

General Danjuma To Lead Committee On Northeast Rehabilitation

President Muhammadu Buhari says a committee to rehabilitate infrastructure and resettle Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Nigeria’s northeast is soon to be formally inaugurated.

The committee, to be led by a statesman, Lt.-Gen. Theophilus Yakubu Danjuma (rtd), would also include Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote.

Speaking at the State House, Abuja on Friday, in response to a goodwill message delivered to him by a group, Women In Politics Forum (WIPF), President Buhari announced that all forms of assistance and aid in this respect generated locally and from foreign countries, as promised by the Group of Seven of Industrialised Countries (G7), would be channelled through the committee when it is inaugurated.

A statement by a spokesman for the President, Mr. Garba Shehu, said President Buhari had compiled a list of damaged infrastructure, including schools and bridges and handed it to the leaders of the G7 and the United States.

“I didn’t ask for a Kobo (in cash). It is up to them to choose what they will undertake. Already, some of them have sent teams to verify our assertions,” the President, however, stated.

Bring Back Our Girls Group Asks FG to Set Up Search And Rescue Team

The Bring Back Our Girls Campaign group is asking the Nigerian Government to set up a special search and rescue team to find the missing Chibok schoolgirls.

At a sit-out session to mark ‘Day 627’ since the girls were taken captive, the co-convener of the group, Aisha Yesufu, said the group was disappointed that President Muhammadu Buhari did not say anything about the missing girls in his New Year message to Nigeria.

To further push their demand for the rescue of the girls abducted by members of the Boko Haram terrorist group on April 14, 2014, the group said it planned to stage a peaceful march to the Presidential Villa on Thursday, January 14, 2016, to engage the President.

We (realtimeclick.blogspot.com) use this platform to congratulate you on your arrival to the Year 2016. We guess individuals given birth to on the 29th day of February will be much happier as they will once again celebrate their birthdays at the appropriate time in the calender.

New Year is characteristic of diverse inputs and outputs out of life meant to realign our paths to the will of the Almighty God, knowing fully well that He's the source and sustainer of the life of mankind.

It's high time that we wiped our slate and consciously in this New Year, inscribe good moral values on it. Think about the things that when done, will add to the value of the person next door. Those moments when we had always overindulged ourselves with our affairs should be behind us.

Now, regarding some of our goals that did not come into fruition last year; do not give up. Two Thousand and Sixteen is yet another great sphere we can harness for a better life. BE TENACIOUS ENOUGH THIS YEAR and still push on with this truth; Idle hands are the devil’s workshop; idle lips are his mouthpiece.

We fervently appeal to all of us to purge ourselves completely of religious, political and other prejudices and stand shoulder-to-shoulder together in order to strengthen our relationships with God and one another.
